Another productive week

Midweek and it's already shaping into a good one.Spent some time in the shaping room building some new board models and at times had the whole family in there critiquing every move helping to make the boards the best the can be.

And of course with the luck of the Big Island we get a good swell to show up and 25 knot winds come with it. And with some other factors mixed in were the ingredients to setting Kona on fire literally yesterday afternoon thankfully the rain showed up late and some amazing work from the fire fighters no house's were burned.

But we were luck to day to find a rare beach break to offer up a couple of close outs along with a near decapitation from my best friend.. (Thanks Chris)!!! Hopefully the wind backs down and we can get some clean ones later this week.

Swells stacking up for Hawaii

Finally the Big Island is in line to start getting some good surf after a slow start to this winter.. So what better time to get in the Shaping bay and build some new boards and break in the new shop.

After work sessions

It's only Tuesday evening and I have already lucked into two quick after work evening sessions and both being pretty uncrowded . Luckily I was able to get Whitney to come and shoot a couple of shots.

And from the looks of Surfline there is another swell to start either Wednesday or Thursday so let's hope for some more short work days.

Weekend of some waves and some wrong calls

Got some fun ones on friday. But spent Saturday supporting a friends benefit for his father most of the day and surfed some terrible waves saturday evening and buckled a board on the only good wave. With the WNW swell on the rise we made the call to go into a remote 4wd beach that usually scores. But I forgot that the night before I told my buddy Murphy he could ride with us and to no unveil he brought his law with us. And we spent the day on the beach instead of in the water.It was probably the only zone on this side of the Island that was completely flat. Thank god for our friend Mike for carrying the beers in it at least made the day more manageable. And it's always a good time with Whitney and our dog pua. Looks like another swell towards the middle or end of the week.

Starting off the New Year right!

2011 was a pretty good year in my eye's. Filled it with some big life lessons, The Love of my life along with a baby on the way. Surf wise was pretty slow with meager swells, a back injury and lot's of work.

But 2012 is starting off amazing already just signed with Rockwell Watches, Have some blanks ordered to get back in the shaping bay to build some fresh new boards. Hawaii just had a solid swell with more lined up even though the Big Island was blocked by the other Islands for most of it. And work got in the way some but got a couple of fun ones and the timing is looking better for this next swell.

So here's to another killer year thank you everyone for the support last year and thank you even more for the continued support!

Holiday's

What can I say it has been a amazing Holiday season My Mom came out from the Mainland for Thanksgiving and to find out if we were having a baby boy or girl and to my relief we are having a Boy.

Followed by a killer Christmas where I got engaged to the woman of my Dreams!!!!

But other then that the surf in and around Kona has been on the small side. So we are all hoping for turn for the better with the New Year. Here is a couple of New photos in the mean time.

Hope everyone is having as good of a Holiday Season as we are! And here's to another killer year!!!!

Island Hoppers is the quest for surf, music and culture in the Caribbean Islands. Lance-O and Lexi host this incredible web series, taking you to new island destinations in High definition each week. We are Kulchashok - A group of INDEPENDENT Filmmakers, DJ’s, Producers and Surfers who are passionate about the Caribbean culture and lifestyle.

What are you trying to do?

Island Hoppers knows how to run on a bare bones budget and still produce a beautiful show that looks like it was produced by a large production company.

New Shaping bay completed

I can finally say that the new shaping bay or you could call it a cave is finally completed! It is a small tight space that is going to take some getting use to but we can still bring big things out of it. Along with moving the location the label has also changed to SMD. Looks like I will be able to be in there by the end of the month building some boards for the winter and gearing up for the future.

Finally back

Back from injury finally, I am sure it was minor compared to what a lot of people endure. But for me tearing one of the main lower back muscle's on one side was the most pain I have ever been in. It hurt to sleep hurt to sit in a car it hurt more then I can describe. But after several trips to the acupuncturist and lots of rest while looking at the waves and wanting nothing but to surf. My back is now feeling 90%! So of course had to make a road trip last weekend to the valley waves were far from all time but was able ti find some close out barrels and do some super rad floaters. But it was nice just to get in the water and feel ready for the winter. Looks like we already have some North swells lining up so hopefully we will have a busy season. Which will also force me back into the shaping bay to get some fresh new boards going .

I know I always say I am going to stay on top of these blog post and I don't. But it is so easy to get caught up in the day to day stuff and nothing seems important enough to write about. But looking back there has been some big things happening in the last few months. There has been some fun swells nothing major though. But in between those there has been a relationship ended friendly and a wonderful new one with the woman of my dreams begun, A new house a new truck and several boards shaped. Hopefully I can actually keep up with this thing now days to keep everyone up to date on what goes on around the Big Island.

Ending the year with a bang

December has been a fun month so far and we are not even to Christmas yet!

Unlike most of America that are ready to run from the snow by now. We drove up to the top of Mauna Kea which is something like 13,800 feet to the summit. Just to play in a little bit of snow and fill the truck up with some to bring it back down by the beach!

We have had a couple smaller swells up North that have been kinda fun at 1 of the few beach breaks we have. Got to make another trip to Waipio Valley just to hang out with a good friend that was in town for a couple days. Caught a couple fun ones but of course no one was around to shoot photos. Starting to kinda seem like the normal story around here.

despite the bad luck of a blown head gasket this weekend. We got lucky and scored some solid surf this morning way up North. And now we are finding our selfs sitting around thinking of what kind of adventure we can find to do for Christmas day!! Wish you all a Happy and safe Holiday and look forward to what we can get into to finish this month off strong. Stay Tuned

Busy Busy

So November and the beginning of December so far have been some really busy few weeks for me. I have gotten a few killer packages in from sponsors which i am more then thankful for. I have got the shaping room completely done and will be shaping boards this weekend. So check back on updates from that side and hopefully some new photos of riding the boards coming soon.

There has been a series of kinda small but fun swells so we have been trying to run all over the island on days off to get some good surf in. Along with a adventure or two back to amazing water falls and other natural sites of the Island.

While I have been busy getting the surfboards up and going Danielle has been doing some amazing things with her art work and it's really taking off for her this year. She has done art work for 2 surf contest, Working on a couple secret projects that you all will tons about when they launch. Along with heading to another Island in January to work on a mural and the list is starting to add up of other things coming in the door for her!

As the year is coming to a end i just want to thank everyone that has hung in there through the economy and continued their support of me. And I look forward to working with you in the future and hope we can make some bigger and better things in 2011 along with maybe some fun trips in there also.

Finally a update from the Rock!

Hello everyone wanted to finally take the time to sit down and give everyone some updates.

We have finally been getting some surf and we are all looking forward to a solid winter season of good surf and more good shots. Speaking of shots Danielle and I are heading over to the East Side this weekend to shoot some surf shots and more lifestyle photos with a good friend. So be on the look out for those in the coming weeks. Also 2 good friends from Florida are moving out here this winter and 1 being a great photographer so it should be a good thing for everyone.

Finally got the new shaping room and glassing area all built behind the house so blanks will be ordered next week and i should have some fresh boards floating around out here for the winter.

Still working out the final logos and we have tossed the name around a few times but i think i have settled on Scott surfboards! Really looking forward to stepping back in the shaping bay and producing some good boards.

So with that said i think it's time to go check the surf again. I promise i am going to start trying harder to keep these blogs coming more often. Thanks everyone for the continued support!

Summer Time is in swing!

Well besides the fact that every time i move i move away from the good swell's.

As of now it has been a pretty slow summer for good surf here in Kona . But it has given us time to get several other projects under way. We have picked up a video camera with a water housing and a good lens for our still camera. Now we just have to decide if it will be a photo or video session when we do get some surf.

On the other hand i have joined up with the guys at SRH as my clothing sponsor so hopefully i can help the boy's build the brand around here. Along the lines of new additions i will be launching SM Surfboards and the next month or 2 and will be shaping my own boards and boards for whoever needs one.

Well here is a short video clip to hold you over until we get some good surf . And there will be some lifestyle photos put up later in the week.

OK so I know it has been 3 months since i have been able to keep any of you updated as to what has been going on and i am sorry for that. But if you take the time to read the crazy story of our journey to move back to Hawaii you will understand it has been a busy time.

Well back when we brought the new year in with a bang I went straight into completely remodeling our Apt. So we were living in a full on construction zone for our last 2 months in Florida. While we were trying to pack up the few things we were shipping to Hawaii and preparing everything else you have to do along with getting all the clearance's for Pua (our dog) to not have to go through quarantine. Also along with all the normal things we had to do My brother had a wonderful wedding in Miami we went to. And probably the biggest let down we came across as we were getting for the move was all of the snakes in the grass. You know those random people that pop up in your life just to get what they can from you at any cost.

So after all of the hustling and bustling to get ready the day finally came February 24th the last things were shipped off the Apt was done we said bye to the last family and we set out for the drive to CA! Everything was going great we made it to Baton Rouge LA the first night and checked into a Red Roof Inn which was the worse hotel i have ever seen in my life. Thankfully we made it through the night and headed west where just past Houston in the middle of a bridge the car decided to die! Almost got hit by a Semi truck so we ran to the end of the bridge to wait for the tow truck. Which took us to the smallest one horse town we have ever seen and spent 2 days at a garage where they had no idea what they were doing. Finally as i was ready to leave the car there and rent one a real mech showed up and got it running again and 680$ later. so the next morning we headed out only to make it 20 miles and it all happened again. So this time i climb under the car and see a melted wire that i was able to fix for 10$ in 20 min problem fixed back on the road for good!!!! Once we made it past this it was smooth sailing other then Danielle's lost wallet somewhere in Arizona.

So we made it to CA and met up with some great friends where we stayed for our 10 days there and took care of their home and animals while they were in Hawaii. It was a great time to slow down relax and get some surf in. Since it was one of the worst winters i ever remember on the East Coast.

We showed up to LAX airport on the morning of march 9th all pumped to finally get on the way and got to the counter with no problems checking in our over weight board bag but they threw a fit over the dog and cage being 6 lbs over i stood there and begged long enough that we almost missed our flight be with another charge for some thing the lets us and Pua on the plane.

Landed in Kona and drove to our house that one of my best friends growing up found for us and it was better then we ever expected! 2 blocks from the beach a killer left right down the street and 5 miles to town.

So now i think i have everyone that read this far pretty much caught up as to what the last few months have been like.

Now it's time to get back to surfing a lot more and getting photos for everyone. We are leaving in the morning to drive to the other side of the Island to camp and surf for the weekend stay tuned for the updates and photos.

Down Time

Hey guys sorry for all the down time and keeping up with updating the blog.

We have not had much going on here in Florida it has either been flat or super choppy so i have been more focusing on getting things ready for the move to Hawaii. I did surf the 1st Volcom Seacow contest and placed 4th in the Quarter's. Other then that here are some of the surf shots from the North West trip.

3000 Miles of the Westside

Just flew back home late Monday night from a amazing 2 week road trip starting in Laguna Beach CA and going all the way to the top of the coast and back down.

I flew into Orange County on a Monday to meet with Chris Wyman with Kaenon who was the mastermind behind this trip. I had enough time left in the day to swing over and pick up 2 new boards from Walker Surfboards and 2 new ones from Surf Prescriptions . Tuesday was spent packing the camper and getting everything you can think of ready for 10 days on the road including sitting at the Dodge Dealer ship for 4 hours. So Wednesday morning after forgetting things and making U turns we finally got on I 5 heading North and drove late into the night till we slept some where on the side of the road around the state line. Thursday when we got on the road it was like clock work Welcome to Oregon and here is the rain . After a stop at Trader Joe's for enough food to feed a army we made it to Washington to meet up with Josh Mulcoy and Kevin.

Saturday we surfed a really fun beach break wedge and made camp along a river. To our surprise a winter storm came through with 60 mph winds and down pouring rain which woke us up around 1 Am to see our truck in the middle of the river as we stepped out of the camper we had raging water up to the bumper and a log blocking our way out. Good thing for 4 wheel drive!!

Sunday we woke to clearing sky's and that's pretty much how the rest of the trip went clear sky's warm weather and perfect waves! That's pretty much where i have to stop the details of where we went and what we surfed . I know plan to hopefully make this trip happen each year and a big thank you to everyone that helped make this trip happen and the crew we had on the trip!!!!!

West Coast Coming

Well we just had the Tommy Tant contest a couple weeks ago and i had a tough first round heat With Gorkin and Todd Holland that was close but unfortunately i was unable to advance out of But i was stoked to surf a heat with a East Coast Legend !

Coming up on monday the 26th i will be heading out to California to Pick up some boards from Walker and Surf Prescriptions. Then myself and my Team Manager from Kaenon will be heading all the way up the West Coast surfing some amazing waves and extremely cold water. But thanks to the guys over at Gul Wetsuits i should be staying plenty warm out there.We will be getting a ton of photos and video from the trip so be on the look out for those coming soon.

Depending on Internet on the trip i will be updating every couple of day to keep everyone up to date where we are.

Outer Banks

Wow we just got home from the Outer Banks. It was a great trip although i never want to do that drive again. We had fun waves and there should be some shots starting to surface shortly. On the down side i was unable to make it past the 2nd round of the OBX Pro and Danielle got 5th in the ESA Easterns. But the worse thing of all is we got home to start editing the video we shot up there and the tapes were blank!!!!! So hopefully we can resolve this issue soon and get some video going.

For the 2nd part of out trip we stayed with the Gibson's a amazing family that we had a great time staying with and surfing with. While staying with them i had the chance to really get to know a kid named James. James is one of those kids you meet once in awhile that has had a tough time in the past with family issues. But has taken the chance with the Gibson's and made the best out of things he got his grades up to straight A's and has started surfing a lot. Although he had only been surfing for 2 years he did not have a board of his own he was riding his girlfriends boards that were to small for him but he was still ripping. So Monday night after surfing with him we got to the house and i handed him one of my boards to have! He could not find words to say. And i was just happy to help someone do what they love to do. Not to mention he was ripping the next day on the board!

That pretty much rounded out that trip. Now that we are home I will be surfing the Tommy Tant contest Oct 10th-11th, Then will be Leaving to CA on the 26th of Oct to do a road trip up through the North West .

What A Busy Week

Just got a killer package in from Kicker and got it all installed ! They pretty much pimped out the 4 Runner for us.(thanks Thomas) Hit those guys up over there if you need anything for your ride.

Danielle got a late invite to Esa Easterns so we were planing on heading up to Cape Hatters N.C on the 19th for her to surf on the 21st. But i have decided that we will head up on the 17th so i can surf the Outer Banks Pro on the 18th-30th, Along on the trip we will be shooting a lot of video and shooting some photos with the ESM guys. I have also just signed on with Ryan Marks as a Manager he is also the owner of Lionize P,R . You can reach Ryan at ryan@lionizepr.com with anything pertaining to sponsorships.

This Saturday to go along with Saint Augustine Beach's 50 year birthday me and 3 other will be giving free surf lessons for 3 hours at the pier thanks to Clint from Pit Surf Shop . After the lessons we will be doing a small Expression session.

I think that pretty much rounds this week out , We have some wind chop out in the water so it time to go get some training in . Keep on the look out for updates from N.C.

weekly update

Just wanted to catch up it has been a whirl wind around here . Surf expo was a good time again this year thankfully it was a lot more mellow then years past. The Dunkelvolk crew hit up Typhoon Lagoon on that friday and had a blast sharing waves for 4 hours. Worn out we heading to the hotel to get up at 5 and head home to catch the swell from Hurricane Bill which was double over head in Saint Augustine and perfect. The down fall was it was breaking so far out it was hard to have anyone shoot where we were. ended up Hurting my back during the day so i skipped the Hurricane search contest on sunday and surfed the couch instead. While on the couch we found a 4 Runner that we will be setting up for the rest of the Hurricane season and for trip to Hawaii this winter. And then pops up Tropical storm Danny just as my back was feeling better. With 4 more days of really fun surf. Once again everyone was so spread out it was hard to find the right guys to shoot with. But on the good side for the rest of the season our new video camera will be here this week.

Surf Expo

Well we will be off to Surf Expo starting Thursday morning to meet up with friends and sponsors. On Friday night we will be surfing the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon with everyone from Dunkelvolk then we will be leaving straight from there and heading to Cocoa Beach for the Hurricane Hunt Contest over the weekend. I am sure most of you know we have the first major Hurricane of the year out there right now so Florida should finally be getting a real swell it's forecast to be solid 8-10 feet Sunday morning.

Not to much news out here this week. The waves have been pretty small if not Flat But the swell charts are showing a little something coming for the weekend. And the tropics are starting to heat up some. I will be at Surf Expo later this month if anyone is going to be there lets get together. That's it for now Let's hope for waves.

Well we just had a killer run of waves finally! But of course the best of it was in the morning's and there was to much glare from the sun to shoot photos. And it looks like we have more waves on tap for later this week so hopefully we can get some shots rolling.

On the contest side of things i just signed up for the 2009 Hurricane Hunt which will be held anywhere in Florida when the waves get big and good! Here is a flier for the contest.

I am starting this blog to help keep people and sponsors updated with things going on, shots, events, travels, and upcoming plans. Here are a couple photos from past swells.

I am going to be getting a lot more footage as soon as the longest flat spell in Florida is over. We are at the beginning of Hurricane season and it's forecasted to be busy, so lets keep our fingers crossed. There is also plans of upcoming events in the works. I will keep you posted.
